Homeschool educators and their children will enjoy corn focused hands-on units that meet standard learning objectives. Each unit is written for a suggested grade level however at the end of each lesson there are lower and upper elementary activities. These activities allow the educator to provide additional assignments and instruction to meet each of the children’s educational level. As the children progress through the units, they will continue to build on their knowledge that they learn about corn, what is needed to grow a healthy corn plant, how corn is grown, parts of the plant and ecosystem within a corn field. This kit will replace the need for homeschool educators to request each of the K-5 kits and summer scientist kit currently available during the year.
Check out our library of TEACH-FLEX lessons. These lessons were developed for at home learning and use easy to find supplies. Use these lessons to go with your homeschool kit.
Homeschool educators will want to subscribe to receive free Mystery of Corn Readers. Each set of readers will come with an educator guide providing suggestions on how to use the readers in the classroom and additional supplemental activities. You can subscribe each year for these readers.
As the need to produce more food with less resources grows, it is important that future generations have a better understanding of agriculture and how corn farming and agriculture fit into our daily lives. That’s why the Kansas Corn STEM program provides lessons to teach science through the lens of corn. We are committed to providing free materials and training to support educators.
